Maatraan is an upcoming Tamil action film directed and co-written by K. V. Anand and scripted by writers Subha. It stars Surya, portraying five different roles, with Kajal Aggarwal playing the female lead, and features music by Harris Jayaraj. The film, produced by Kalpathi S. Aghoram, is currently in its production stage and expected to release in April 2012.

Thara who played Karthik's sister in Agni Natchathiram was signed on to play Suriya's mother.
It was officially launched on July 22, 2011 in Chennai. In November 2011, the crew filmed a song in Latvia. Some key scenes were shot in Moscow, becoming the second Indian film to be shot in Russia. The sixth schedule was held at Chettinad Hospital. It is said that the locations of Russia play a key role in Maatraan. KV Anand has carefully chosen some of the beautiful locales to fit the storyline, says a source.
