Ram Charan Tej, also known as Cherry, was born on 27 March 1985 in Chennai to actor Chiranjeevi and Smt. Surekha. He has two sisters, Sushmita and Srija. He is the grandson of Allu Ramalingaih and nephew of actors Nagendra Babu and Pawan Kalyan. His cousin Allu Arjun is also a Tollywood actor.

He made his film debut with Chirutha. Ram Charan(Cherry) studied in Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan School, Chennai and he was brought up there. He did his schooling in Chennai and Ooty. He is the famous for Dance in Telugu Film Industry and he has good skills in Martial Arts. He knows horse riding well and the person who encouraged him to be involved in horse riding was Prabhu, a Tamil actor.

Career:
Ram Charan made his film debut in 2007 with Chirutha, which was directed by Puri Jagannadh. The movie showed a good performance at the box office. Charan's performance was well-received and eventually received Filmfare Best Male Debut (South) and Nandi Special Jury Award for the role. 

His second film, S. S. Rajamouli's Magadheera (2009), emerged a critical as well as huge commercial success. This film broke all records and ran for an uninterrupted 300 plus days, and became the highest grossing Telugu film earning around 90 crores. The movie was a show stealer at South Indian Filmfare awards for the year 2009 with six awards and Ram Charan getting the Filmfare Best Actor Award and Nandi Special Jury Award. After the mega block buster Magadheera, Ram Charan came with a romantic entertainer Orange. The flick was directed by Bommarillu Bhaskar and produced by Nagendra Babu.

Presently, Ram Charan is all set to play the lead under Sampath Nandi's direction. The movie is being jointly produced by Paras Jain and NV Prasad under Super Good Films banner. The title of the film has been framed as ‘Rachaa’. Ram Charan recently went to USA for a couple of months to get himself trained in various martial arts. The movie is in production phase and producers are planning to release the movie by the end of this year. Tamannaah Bhatia will be the female lead.

Towards the end of November 2009, Ram Charan was featured on the cover page of People's magazine (for their December South India edition).
