Everything from the 'Mankatha' front has made the headlines in media publications, from new media to tabloids to the television. 'Mankatha', as it's quite known, marks Thala Ajith's 50th offering in Tamil cinema and he is donning the avatar of a baddie, the film boasts off a criminal Ajith one would have never seen.

This film directed by Venkat Prabhu has a host of other stars including Arjun, Premgi, Vaibhav, Mahat, Anjali, Lakshmi Rai, Andrea and many others. Music is by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

The film is a racy one with many twists and it will keep one glued to the screen till the very end of the film, not even sparing the end credits as it will showcase Ajith's and other stars' bloopers which will be quite a laugh riot.

Ram Charan to get engaged to Upasana at Domakonda

Kamineni Umapati Rao is the maternal grandfather of Upasana, the prospective bride of Mega Power Star Ram Charan.

Upasana�s parents Anil Kamineni and Sobha Reddy are the current heirs of Domakonda Gadi Samsthan. Domakonda is a heritage centre near Nizamabad town and hence her family had decided to hold the engagement of the would- be couple there.

As per the information available, the engagement of Ram Charan and Upasana Kamineni would be held at Domakonda in December. Umapati Rao usually spends two days every year in that place as he owned it and offer prayers to Lord Siva during Maha Shivaratri festival days with his entire family. Since his granddaughter getting engaged there, he reportedly instructed his people to take up some repair works to the house and spruce it tastefully in a rich manner.

All the arrangements for the engagement of the prospective bride and groom had already started. The temple nearby was dedicated to Lord Shiva and it was built in such a way to reflect the Kakatiyan style of architecture and as per the scriptures, the temple was built in Kakatiyan Era.

Ramcharan in a recent post on twitter say "i officially confirm to my twitter fans also that Upasna is the chosen one for me and we together need all ur good wishes..."

Big Booking for "Mankatha"..........

Ajith fans have proved it again. Right from the moment the booking for 'Mankatha', the 50th of film of their Thala, began, they started thronging to cinema halls where the movie will be screened, to get tickets for first day.

Theatre sources say the response is so huge and they are so happy. Even online booking is witnessing a history of sorts, it is said. "Ajith is always referred to as king of opening. It has been proved once again," they add.

Sun Pictures, which is distributing 'Mankatha' in association with Radhika Sarathkumar's Radaan Media, is releasing the film in over 300 theatres in Tamil Nadu. "Since there are two holidays this week (Ramzan and Vinayaka Chathurthi), no doubt that the movie would see a gala opening," according to trade circles.

Velayudham - Audio Release Photos & News

The success of 'Velayudham' audio launch in Madurai has made Vijay extremely happy. The Ilayathalapathy has thanked his fans for taking pains to attend the event and for making it a grand spectacle.

"It is because of my fans I am here now. They have been supporting me in my each and every step and the audio launch of Velayudham is a milestone in that aspect. I am overwhelmed with their affection," says Vijay.

Requesting his fans and the members of Vijay Makkal Iyakkam to concentrate on public work without losing focus on their family and career, the actor says, "Like how I am important to them, they are important to me as well."

The music of 'Velayudham' was launched in Madurai on Sunday evening, in the presence of thousands of Vijay fans from all over Tamil Nadu. On the occasion, Vijay donated cows, sewing machines and iron boxes, besides proving financial assistance to students.

Kamal in "Anbulla Kamal"...............

'Four Friends', a Malayalam film that released last year is being dubbed to Tamil as 'Anbulla Kamal'. The film features our very own Kamal Haasan in a pivotal guest appearance towards the end.

This film by Saji Surendran features Jayaram, Jayasurya, Kunchako Boban and Meera Jasmine in the lead roles. The film is inspired by Hollywood blockbuster 'The Bucket List' which garnered much appreciation from critics.

  

Kamal appears in a scene, portraying his real self, that of a top-notch actor. The film has all the four actors as cancer victims and they meet one another and become close friends during their treatment. Kamal who meets them in an airport gives them pep talk that boosts their confidence.
Rajinikanth's blockbuster 'Anbulla Rajinikanth' also dealt with a cancer patient and the film is a dear one to many fans till date. 'Anbulla Kamal' boasts off a clean script that does away from masala entertainers, we'll have to wait to see if the film strikes the chord at the BO.

 Karikalan

 This Chiyaan Vikram offering is a period film set in the Chola era, which is considered to be the golden period in Tamil Nadu. Vikram is said to play the titular character, that of a king. The posters showcase Vikram as a proud king in the warfield, fighting away enemies. The First-Look of this film raised many an eyebrow seeing Vikram in this new avatar...

7am Arivu

 The film is a part period and a part conventional film and through the First - Look, the makers showcased Suriya as a Tamil monk whose role is for about twenty minutes in the film, according to sources. This film by AR Murugadoss features Suriya and Shruti Haasan. Suriya as an angry monk sure grabbed the attention of the masses and awed one and all.

Rana

 The First - Look of 'Rana' showcased Rajini as a fierce young warrior. It has Rajini as a warrior from the north with another person donning a mask, behind him. The film will resume shooting shortly. 'Rana' can be referred to as Superstar Rajinikanth and KS Ravikumar's pet project.

Velayudham

'Velayudham' film sees how a commoner, Vijay, when pushed into certain situations dons the role of a superhero who fights away goons to save the society. The First - Look shows Vijay as a superhero overlooking the city in his suave superhero avatar. 'Velayudham' is directed by Jayam Raja and has Ilayathalapathy Vijay, Hansika Motwani and Genelia D' Souza in the lead roles.

Sultan

 This offering by Soundarya will see light of the day soon and might see a title change to 'Dheera' as per sources in the know. This part animation cum live action film will see Rajinikanth donning multiple avatars. Another warrior film for Rajini in the making...

  

Aravan

 'Aravan' is a period film again, and the film features Aadhi and Dhansika in the lead roles and is not just another period film that is set against wars and epic. The film is set in the eighteenth century and showcases the lives of Tamilians back then, the movie is directed by Vasantha Balan.

Other films that are sure to have smashing First - Looks are 'Mugamoodi' and 'Mareesan'. 'Mugamoodi' is Tamil cinema’s first ever superhero project with Jiiva playing lead and 'Mareesan' will feature Dhanush in a fantasy avatar.

Will Superstar appear in public soon?????

It has been a long time since the public caught a glimpse of Superstar Rajinikanth. Right from the time the matinee idol fell sick and was hospitalized which led him to fly to Singapore for further treatment, fans and well wishers of the Superstar have been longing to have a look at him as he back and resting at his farmhouse in Chennai.

The fans were in for a celebration when they heard that KS Ravikumar -Rajinikanth magnum opus 'Rana' would go on floors from the beginning of October. There are now reports that the director has already begun filming some portions with the heroine Deepika Padukone and other stars.

Now it seems like Rajini fans will be able to get a glimpse of their Superstar even before the actor gets set to don the greasepaint for 'Rana.' KS Ravikumar's daughter's wedding reception will take place at a posh Chennai hotel on September 2 and sources close to the star as well as the director believe that the Superstar will grace the occasion.

Now if that happens, it will be the first ever public appearance Rajinikanth will be making after his return to Chennai post treatment! We are sure the shutterbugs will be present at the venue poised with their cameras to catch a glimpse of Rajinikanth who is now fit and fine and looking forward to shoot for 'Rana.'

Mankatha - on August 31st confirmed!!!!!!!!!

Ajith's biggie 'Mankatha' is much-expected by those in the film industry and the masses worldwide. The film made headline again today as the newspaper ads today didn't publish the release date, August 31, but rather had the words 'Coming Soon' which led to much speculation and trade was abuzz that the film might see a change in release date!

However, Dhayanidhi has confirmed the release date as August 31 and you can take a look at tomorrow's 'Mankatha' newspaper advertisement in here that also says the release date as August 31.

It is said that Radaan has sold the movie for a good deal at all areas in Tamil Nadu and now negotiations are on for NSC which has the highest demand for this Thala Ajith's 50th offering. Theatres where the movie has been sold has been booked for thirty days, say sources in the know.

It is said that the film will see a worldwide release on August 31, and will go overseas with subtitles! However, the release date in Kerala is yet to be confirmed.

Kamal's 'Nanbaragalum 40 Thirudargalum'

Expect a quickie from Kamal Haasan which would hit the screens before his magnum opus 'Viswaroopam'. Titled 'Nanbaragulm 40 Thirudargalum', the film would be produced by the reputed Sivaji Productions.

According to sources, Kamal would share the screen space with Prabhu in this movie. Remember the two gave us the great entertainer 'Vettri Vizha' two decades ago, which too was produced by the same Sivaji Productions.

"Since it would take time for Kamal to complete Viswaroopam, he has decided to come out with a quickie to make his fans happy. When Kamal conveyed his idea to Prabhu, the latter was so happy to produce the venture," sources say.

Kamal shared a great rapport with 'Nadigar Thilakam' Sivaji Ganesan and he was referred as the elder son of 'Annai Illam', the residence of the veteran. "So it is natural for him to join hands with Ramkumar and Prabhu, the sons of Sivaji," they add.

Dhanush - Chimbudevan's 'Mareesan'

Director Chimbudevan may just be three films old in Tamil cinema as a director, but he has definitely carved a niche for himself, what with laugh riots like 'Imsai Arasan 23m Pulikesi', 'Arai En 305-il Kadavil' and 'Irumbukkottai Murattu Singam'.

Now the latest is that, the director is coming up with a movie, 'Mareesan', with Dhanush playing the lead role!

This film will be Dhanush's biggie with a budget of Rs 30 crore and will be produced by UTV Motion Pictures. 'Mareesan' will be a fantasy period film set in the 12th  century and have Dhanush in a never-seen-before suave avatar.

It seems the director took extreme care in penning the script of this fantasy period drama as he wanted to pay attention to every detail, and do justice to the big budget the film boasts off.

Music for 'Mareesan' will be by GV Prakash and camera by Kathir. The hunt for Dhanush's lady love in this film is on and the 'Mareesan' will go on floors by the end of the year.

Rajini's 'Sultan The Warrior' goes 'Dheera'?

It's almost official.

IndiaGlitz had reported that Superstar Rajinikanth's 'Sultan The Warrior' might see a name change and that Soundarya had zeroed in on three names to choose the final title from.

Now the Kollywood grapevine is abuzz that 'Sultan The Warrior' will be rechristened to 'Dheera' as Soundarya wanted a Tamil title for the film. Sources further add that Rajini will don dual avatars in this film, and their names might be Sultan and Dheera.

This live action-cum-animation movie will also feature Prakash Raj, Rahul Dev and many others in pivotal roles and has music by AR Rahman.

An official announcement on the name change from 'Sultan The Warrior' to 'Dheera' will be made soon and the film may see light of the day before Rajini's 'Rana'.

Vijay's – Yohan Adhyayam Ondru Movie tidbits!!!!!!

The basic plot of 'Yohan Adhyayam Ondru', a film which will bring together Vijay and Gautham Vasudev Menon for the first time, is here.

"The film is about a common man who hails from Tuticorin and establishes his network around the world. Vijay plays a much wanted person who is in the radar of police departments of almost all countries," sources say.

An action thriller, the script will be totally new to Tamil cinema, they say and add: "Yohan Adhyayam Ondru will be an edge-of-the-seat entertainer and it will go on floors by the beginning of next year, that is, 2012."

To be produced by Photon Kathaas Productions, a company run by Gautham himself, the movie will have music by A R Rahman, cinematography by Manoj Paramahamsa. "Gautham will now start a film with Jiiva and will begin Yohan after its release," sources add.

Rajini supports Anna Hazare

Superstar Rajinikanth has offered his support to Anna Hazare and the Jan Lokpal bill.

In a statement, he said: "There can be no doubt that corruption is a dreaded disease that needs to be weeded from the Indian Society. I am very happy that we have a very able and dedicated leader in Anna Hazare to lead us in this fight against corruption.

I whole-heartedly support the India Against Corruption Movement in their campaign to get Jan Lokpal bill legislated in parliament.

I congratulate all the Indians who have lent their support to this bloodless revolution. This kind of peaceful movement is possible only in India which is the birthplace of Satyagraha. I am very proud to be an Indian", Rajini concludes.

Tamil Nadu Goverment bans filming at monuments

As a step to save historic monuments and preserve culture the Tamil Nadu government has ordered a permanent ban on shooting films from more than 85 monumental sites that are being preserved by the Archeological Department. The order has been brought into effect from August 9 and was enforced by tourism secretary VK Jayakodi.

This order has come in the wake of a letter from the archeological commissioner who had complained to the state that many monuments in the state were getting damaged as well as their beauty and cleanliness taking a backseat when teams directing films visit the places for shooting purpose. Moreover such shoots were a hindrance to visitors and tourists who came there to appreciate architecture.

Of all the places, the most popular is the Thirumalai Naicker Mahal which is a treat for lens men and directors alike. The structure which was constructed towards the end of the 16th century was shaped up by an Italian architect. Only one-fourth of the structure has stood the test of time.

This move by the law makers has been welcomed by all those who favour and want the art and culture of the state to be preserved for posterity.

Kollywood in support of Anna Hazare

Various associations of Tamil film industry will observe a fast in Chennai on Tuesday to express their solidarity for anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare, who is on a hunger strike in New Delhi.

Organised by Tamil Film Industry Co-Ordination Committee, the one-day fast between 9 am and 5 pm will see the participation of actors, actresses, directors, producers and others.

Producer Chitra Lakshmanan, who is coordinating the fast, said, "Those who want to express their support for the cause can join the fast. It is our way of showing concern for the society".

SA Chandrasekar, Cheran, Radha Ravi, Kalaipuli G Sekaran and many others are expected to take part in this event.

Karigalan - First Looks

After the great success of ‘Deiva Thirumagal’ Vikram’s next movie named ‘Karikalan’ is directed by L. I. Kannan. This movie has Vikram and Zarine Khan in the main roles. Pasupathy and Shanmugarajan plays other important roles in the movie. Music is by Vijay Antony. Camera is handled by N. Karthik and editing is by T. S. Suresh. We can expect this movie to release in 2012.

The first look of 'Karikalan', one of the forthcoming films of Chiyaan Vikram, is finally out when the makers of the period movie came out with advertisements in leading newspapers on Sunday morning.

When we probed unit sources to know more, they said, "The film is set in the backdrop of Chola era, which is considered as the golden period of Tamil Nadu. Vikram is playing a powerful king, who is ready to go to any extent for his people."

Written and directed by L I Kannan, 'Karikalan' is produced by S Parthi and S S Vasan on Silverline Film Factory banner. Shooting is taking progress on a fast track and some pivotal scenes on Vikram are currently being shot.

Besides 'Karikalan', Vikram is also shooting for 'Rajapattai', directed by Suseenthiran of 'Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu' and 'Azhagarsamiyin Kudhirai' fame. He is playing a gym instructor in the movie.

Viswaroopam – starts today!!!!!!!

The good news is here at last. After much delay and dillydallying, Kamal Haasan will start shooting for his magnum opus 'Viswaroopam' from today. Besides playing the lead role, he will wield the megaphone too.

As we reported already, Ansuhka has been roped in by Kamal to play the female lead. "However, it is unsure for Anushka to attend the shoot today, as she is busy with other commitments. Scenes on Kamal will be shot today," say sources.

"Kamal has decided to make Viswaroopam a grand venture in all aspects. It will be a rich movie in content, making and budget. The film will be simultaneously made in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi," sources in the know add.

"Anushka was very happy when she was approached by Kamal. Though her dates are full for the next few months, she made some adjustments considering the importance of the film," sources say, adding: "A grand set has been erected on the Old Mahabalipuram Road for the movie."

Mankatha da! - on August 31st

Finally a guessing game has ended on the release date of Ajith starrer 'Mankatha', as Ayngaran International has officially announced the worldwide release date of 'Mankatha' as August 31!

August 31, although a Wednesday will mark important festivals and the 'Mankatha' team seems to want to utilize this to the fullest.

'Mankatha' that is directed by Venkat Prabhu has Ajith, Arjun, Trisha, Lakshmi Rai, Andrea, Anjali, Mahat, Premgi Amaren and many other stars, with music by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Ajith plays a baddie in this film who doesn't spare even his 'girlfriend' Trisha, and cheats her for money, all to achieve his goal, whilst Arjun plays a rough-touch cop, chasing Vinayak Mahadevan and his gang.

It's all the way 'Mankatha da...' this August 31!

The music disc of Suriya's upcoming film '7 Am Arivu' directed by AR Murugadoss will be available in stores for all to enjoy from September 10. This has been confirmed by the man behind the tunes of the film, Harris Jayaraj.

'7 Am Arivu' is a sci-fi thriller film which sees heartthrob Suriya and Shruti Haasan pair up for the first time ever. Anthony Gonsalvez the editor of '7 Am Arivu' is in a dilemma because despite negating all the unwanted scenes from the film it still has a running time of more than 3 hours! The editor is unable to leave out most of the scenes because they are vital in taking the story forward.

This is one of the most-expected releases of 2011, with Suriya donning more that three makeovers which are drastically different from one another. The actor has also learnt acrobatic stunts for the film because in one of the roles he appears as a circus acrobat!

With AR Murugadoss wielding the megaphone after six years in Tamil and getting back to work with his dream team (Murugadoss, Suriya, Harris Jayaraj) which spun the blockbuster 'Ghajini,' lots of expectations are running high on '7 am Arivu.' The time the music of the film is releasing is also a special occasion for the lead star Suriya who will be celebrating his fifth wedding anniversary on September 11, the very next day of the audio launch!
